These smoked BBQ wings are easy, don’t take very long, and totally delicious! They also only require a few ingredients, and are Whole30, Paleo, gluten-free and keto. Unlike meats when cooked on a smoker, wings are straightforward and not very fussy. These wings are perfectly juicy, have a great smoky flavor and great for any gathering!
Ingredients for Making Smoked BBQ Wings
These Whole30 smoked bbq wings only require a few ingredients. You’ll need 3 pounds of chicken wings, and a few spices such as garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and paprika to season the raw wings with prior to putting them onto the smoker. Then, you’ll need a BBQ sauce to toss the wings in once they’re finished cooking.
There’s a few Whole30 BBQ sauce options, my favorite being the Classic or Golden BBQ from Primal Kitchen. You can get them on Amazon, from their website (use code PALEOBAILEY for a discount), most major grocery stores like Target and Walmart, or from a discount at Thrive Market. You can also make your own homemade Whole30 BBQ, which is really simple and budget friendly, too!
How to Prepare and Smoke the Wings
You’ll first start by getting your smoker ready. Turn it on and heat it to 250 degrees F. The Traeger pellets I love using for chicken are the signature pellets, apple, or hickory wood pellets. I’ve found these three to be the best for poultry, and really enjoy the smoky flavor they give chicken and turkey.
Then, you’ll want to pat the wings really dry using a paper towel, and mix the spices in a small dish. Add the wings then to a mixing bowl, dump in the spice mixture and toss to coat the wings evenly. Next, just place your wings onto the heated smoker evenly spaced out and let cook for 2 hours, flipping halfway through.
Once they’re done, you’ll remove them from the smoker and toss them with your BBQ sauce prior to serving. You can also opt to brush the BBQ sauce onto both sides of the wings while they’re still on the smoker, turn up the heat to 400 degrees F. and cook for 10 extra minutes to caramelize the BBQ sauce a bit. This does take a bit more extra work and time, though, and both ways to sauce the wings are delicious!
