I’ll rarely turn down a salad but there’s something about summer that makes them even more enjoyable. This raspberry lemon dressing is fresh, fruity and perfect for a warm sunny day. It’s also simple to make. There’s usually no rocket science behind creating your own salad dressings which makes DIY dressing a quick option. More affordable and healthy, too!
Speaking of affordable, in almost every post of my budget Whole30 series, I mention how making your own dressings saves you a ton of money. And I really mean that. While I’ll be the first to say Primal Kitchen’s ranch dressing is hands-down my favorite thing ever, I’ll also be the first in line to save a few bucks where I can too. Which means I try to make my own when I can.
If you’ve looked at store bought dressings lately, especially ones that have fruit in them, the ingredient list usually includes fruit concentrate and tons of added sugars. I’m not about adding a dressing to my huge plate of veggies that’s going to make me unhealthier when the point of a salad is to make me more healthy, ya’ know?
Making your own dressings, like this raspberry lemon dressing, balsamic vinaigrette or ranch, allows you to be in control of the ingredients you put in. Dairy-free? No problem. On a Whole30? Easy peasy. Simply leave out the honey in this recipe! It’s a lot easier to do it yourself than find conventional dressings at your local grocery store. Like that old saying, “if you want it done right, do it yourself!” Right? Right. 😉
They’re also super customizable depending on what you’ve already got on hand. I’ve made this same dressing before but subbing the raspberries for blueberries or the lemon for orange. Use what you’ve got and use what you like! No balsamic vinegar? Try apple cider instead. Leave out the honey for a Whole30!
I did use honey in this raspberry lemon dressing recipe, but as I mentioned, you can totally leave it out. Or if you don’t have honey, use coconut sugar. I also used avocado oil, which is what I use a good 80% of the time I need oil for anything. I prefer Primal Kitchen (use code GROK15 to get 15% off your order or get it from Amazon or Thrive Market where it’s under 10 bucks!) but I also love Chosen Foods.
