Sugar-Free Taco Seasoning Ingredients
This DIY Whole30 taco seasoning recipe only calls for common spices that are likely in your pantry or spice drawer already. You’ll need 8 spices, plus a bit of salt and pepper, to make up your own taco seasoning to have on hand. This is easier and cheaper than buying pre-made taco seasoning, plus you get to control the ingredients (no sugar or excess sodium!).
I get my spices from Thrive Market for a discount (new members get a $20 shopping credit!), but they’re also easily accessible at your any local grocery stores!
This is a mild taco seasoning recipe. If you’d like to add more spice to it, add more chipotle powder and cayenne to taste. Another option to increase the spice level is to add red pepper chili flakes. All in all, this homemade taco seasoning makes enough to season 4 pounds of ground beef, ground turkey or ground chicken. To keep even more on hand, simply double the recipe.
Ways to Use Homemade Taco Seasoning
There are countless ways to utilize having your own Whole30 homemade taco seasoning on hand. It’s great for making any type of tacos, including beef, shrimp, veggie or chicken tacos. It’s also delicious as a dry rub for pork shoulder, ribs, chicken thighs or salmon! Below are four of my most frequent ways to use this DIY seasoning.
Storing Homemade Seasonings
When you make your own seasoning mixes, they will last just as long as the individual seasoning itself. In most cases, this is months to years! To make sure it stays fresh, you’ll want to ensure your taco seasoning is kept in an airtight jar or container. My favorite ways to keep my homemade seasonings are in small Weck jelly jars, being they aren’t just spice jars so they can be used many other ways in my kitchen. You can also use glass spice jars with lids, or canisters if you want to double or triple the recipe.
