Picking my favorite casserole recipe is like picking a favorite child, you just can’t do it. But, if I was really pressed, I’d have to say this is near the very top. The alfredo gives it a creamy, nutty flavor and the onion and broccoli get perfectly roasted and are such a compliment to the bacon. It really is just… really good, and it’s such a comfort food for me. The best part is that it’s a healthier weeknight dinner with no junk or alfredo sauce with sugar or additives. With under 10 ingredients, it’s quick and easy to throw together.
Ingredients in This Whole30 Chicken Bacon Alfredo Casserole
This recipe is really straightforward in that it doesn’t take much for it to all come together. The key here though is to have the chicken and bacon already cooked. I typically always have roasted or shredded chicken in the fridge as part of my meal prep each week, but if you don’t, you can microwave, boil or roast the chicken to cook in through quickly. The bacon will also take only a few minutes to pan fry if you haven’t done so already, and then simply set it aside to cool before you chop it.
You’ll also need broccoli, a white or yellow onion, and hash browns. I use frozen hash browns, and they are fairly simple to find in major grocery stores with no sugar added these days. Target and Walmart carry them in the freezer section. You could also shred your own potato by using a wide cheese grater.
Dairy-Free Alfredo Sauce
The last ingredient needed to pull the entire casserole together is the dairy-free alfredo sauce. You can opt to make your own, but I am loving the new Primal Kitchen Garlic Alfredo Sauce. It’s one of the 5 new pasta sauces they’ve created, and it’s gotta be my favorite. I love having it already in the pantry ready for nights I don’t feel like doing much other than dumping the sauce into a casserole or a skillet and having a healthy meal on the table.
Primal Kitchen also has another dairy-free alfredo flavor besides the garlic alfredo sauce, which is the classic alfredo. Both are made with cashew butter and are also keto friendly. The other sauces in their new pasta sauce line are tomato basil marinara, roasted garlic marinara and dairy-free vodka sauce.

How to Make this Whole30 and Paleo Chicken Bacon Alfredo Casserole
Once you have all of your ingredients prepared and the oven preheating, you’re going to add them into a 3-4 quart casserole dish after you’ve lightly greased it. Pour the alfredo sauce into the casserole dish and use a spoon to incorporate the sauce into the rest of the ingredients, being gentle as to not smash the vegetables while you stir to combine it.
After that, you’re going to pop it into the oven and let it bake for about 35 minutes, or until the top is slightly browned. This time may vary depending on what size casserole dish you used and how thick the casserole was in said dish, or by oven. This Whole30 casserole recipe is awesome as leftovers (seriously, so good), and it’s good in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also double this recipe, and bake it for about 50 minutes if still using a 3-4 quart casserole dish.

I made this tonight for my VERY picky 3 boys who do not like it when I mess with their meal by trying new things and I’m happy to say they want me to make again!!! I did not go dairy free with them (used Rao’s), I did add cauliflower (yummy)…I gotta start somewhere, baby steps…

I was SKEPTICAL to say the least. I’m dairy free but not a big fan of a lot of the dairy substitutes. But this was SO yummy. My grocery store was out of Primal Kitchen’s garlic Alfredo so I just used their regular Alfredo. And no onions. Do not skimp on the broccoli! It’s what really brings it all together in my opinion. Husband loved it. Will be making it again!

Has anyone ever prepared this ahead of time? I am taking it to a family for a post-baby treat and want to prepare the night before.
Thanks in advance! Amy

I have been really nervous to use the cashew Alfredo sauce, worried it wouldn’t taste good. Well it’s pretty good and instead of potatoes I used cauliflower hash browns and baked them first then cut them up into strips and it tastes good as well. This will be in my regular dishes I make from now on. Thank you for posting.

This recipe was so good!! I was wondering if taking it to a friend as a freezer meal would work for this recipe? How would you suggest freezing it and reheating it?
Kathy Barber says
Easy & delicious! I cooked my chicken in the Instant Pot & bacon in the microwave – very easy to pull together. I baked these in individual glass dishes and added a little parm to the top. Going into the rotation for sure.

I’m so glad to hear this!! Thank you so much for giving it a try, and taking the time to leave a review. Parm sounds SO delicious, too!!

Can you use shallots instead of white/yellow onions?
paleobailey says
Yes!
Brooke says
This was great! I didn’t get Alfredo vibes but more of a garlic/onion cream of chicken soup taste from the homemade Alfredo sauce. I even used canned chicken so I bet it would be even better with regular chicken.

Comfort food at its finest..Will definitely be making again

Hello. Thank.you for sharing so many wonderful recipes. I will definitely be following you. This recipe looks great. I am also Low Fodmap, and I cannot have the mushrooms or broccoli (the other stuff I have been able to work around for years now). I am wondering if a zucchini substitution for the broccoli would be equally as yummy. What are your thoughts, or recommendations? Thank you again, for sharing your recipes and journey with us.

I’ve had my eye on this recipe for a long time, but finally got around to making it last night. I used frozen broccoli because that’s what I had on hand (cooked it first) and it turned out just fine. My 13 month old daughter kept asking for more! We will be making this again! It’s definitely a nice, warm comfort meal as we hunker down in the Midwest this winter.
